Sustainability

Gumtree Golf & Nature Club makes golf goods slowly, in small runs, from textiles that already exist wherever we can. Here is what that means in practice.

Upcycled, one-of-a-kind materials

Many of our golf headcovers, putter covers, pouches and vests are cut from found textiles that would otherwise sit in a barn or end up in landfill: heirloom American quilts, 1950s–1980s canvas camp tents, fly-fishing waders, burlap feed sacks and coffee sacks. Each piece is cut from a different part of the source, so no two are the same, and once a textile is used up the design is retired.

Made close to home

Our products are designed in Brooklyn and made in small batches in New York City, many in Manhattan's garment district, or by partners across the USA: knit wool headcovers from Oregon, golf bags handmade to order by Mackenzie in Portland. Short supply chains mean fewer miles, and small runs mean we don't overproduce.

Better materials for the in-line range

Several of our tees are made from 100% reclaimed American waste cotton, and our headcovers use durable natural fibres like American wool and heavyweight cotton canvas that are built to last for years in a golf bag.

2% for carbon removal

2% of every purchase goes to carbon removal through Stripe Climate, which funds permanent carbon removal technologies.

Getting golfers into nature

Our Field Trips, bird walks and community events are built around noticing the places we play: the birds, plants and landscapes of golf courses from Brooklyn to the Sonoran Desert. Low-flying birds over low scores.
